Prey Drive: What is it?

What is a cats prey drive?

A prey drive is the natural instinct to catch prey or chase a living animal. Cats, who are strictly carnivorous, have this instinct to change an animal known as prey to there minds, mice, rats, birds, insects etc. Some cats have a high prey drive and some have a low prey drive.

High Prey Drive:

Cats with high prey drive will love to chase birds, mice or any other animal, and bring them to your doorstep. They love to hunt because it feels natural to them. Never get mad at your cat for bringing back a little present. Remember, its their natural instinct.

Low Prey Drive:

Cats with a low prey drive don't really have a lot of interest in hunting. They might like to hunt a fly once in a while, but don't really care if it gets away. Most cats like this are probably the purebred cats. They have less natural instinct because they were bred by humans, while most street cats have a extremely high prey drive.

Dealing with a high prey drive cat:

If you have a high prey drive cat, keeping them indoors is an option. They might be very miserable not going outdoors. There is nothing you can do about the cat bringing back dead animals. It means they love you and what to make sure your not hungry.
